Salieri never tried to do with Mozart. They were good friends, respect each other and were about as popular at that time (Mozart) and more popular after his death. Salieri even wrote Mozart's funeral.
Please understand the idea of Mozart, Salieri damage in any way is a fiction and is mentioned in Ammedeus to add more drama. It is sad that most people do not realize that was a great dialer
